Hi, I am Lianne Lim.
I live in Hong Kong and provide counselling to clients both locally and overseas. I specialise in helping people manage the stress, trauma, and relationship issues that come from navigating life’s challenges.
My Counselling Approach
While self-awareness is vital, insight alone is not enough for meaningful healing. It’s essential to explore the choices available to you and make informed decisions that resonate with your authentic self.
I regard my clients as the experts of their own lives, each bringing unique experiences to our sessions. Many seek effective strategies to address current challenges and break free from recurring negative patterns. Together, we will examine new perspectives and solutions, equipping you to overcome struggles and shift toward a more future-focused, growth-oriented mindset.
My approach is directive, collaborative, and solution-focused. I strive to create a supportive environment where we can address your unique challenges and aspirations. By blending guidance with empowerment, I aim to help you develop practical strategies that foster positive change and personal growth.
I am trained in several therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Person-Centred Therapy. In our sessions, I will tailor these approaches to best support you in achieving your goals.
My Professional Background
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Psychology from Tufts University, along with a Master of Commerce in Finance from the University of New South Wales. My career began in investment banking in New York City, where I quickly became acquainted with the intense pressures faced by professionals in high-stakes environments. Transitioning between various countries and roles, I encountered the demands of complex deals and transactions, often resulting in significant stress and sleepless nights.
This firsthand experience ignited my passion for mental health and well-being, prompting me to pursue a Master of Counselling from Monash University. After completing my degree, I served as a school counselor in private bilingual International Baccalaureate (IB) schools in Hong Kong. In this role, I gained valuable insights into the challenges faced by parents and students in high-pressure educational settings, providing counselling to students while also offering parenting strategies to support families. Additionally, I facilitated workshops on effective stress management techniques tailored to educational environments.
Now in private practice in Hong Kong, I assist adult individuals and couples facing a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, grief, low self-esteem, and relationship conflicts. I offer support during significant life transitions—whether entering a new phase of independence, navigating infertility or IVF treatments, becoming a parent (through adoption, fostering, pregnancy, or postpartum), or considering a career change.
My commitment to understanding the complexities of family dynamics is further enriched by my experience as a foster parent with the Mother’s Choice Project Bridge program. I also served on the Steering Committee of the Adoptive Families of Hong Kong, where I contributed to supporting adoptive families and raising awareness about adoption issues.
With a blend of professional experience and a deep understanding of mental health challenges specific to working professionals, I am dedicated to helping my clients achieve clarity, balance, and fulfilment in both their personal and professional lives.
